Night photography requires you to be prepared, you need to make sure you have everything you require. Especially when you are going out into the middle of nowhere, with nothing but a back pack to contain all your equipment.

I’m going to list a few things that you should always take to ensure you are prepared and ready to spend hours on end outside creating stunning long exposure photos. You should use this as a basic guide for when you go out with your equipment.

The Essentials

If you are in the UK, the usual weather at night is going to be cold, sometimes wet and very dark. These conditions can be different by the hour, this means you need to prepared for all conditions and should carry the equipment necessary to be protected and keep all your equipment intact.

So, when it comes to camera equipment, luckily you’re not going to need to take your giant lens collection. So, you will need:

If you’re a light painter then you’re going to need a lot more than just this! The basic tools a light painter will need are:

  • Flash Gun
  • Torch
  • LED Pen/Light
  • Gel FIlters (Blue, Red, Green etc…)

These things are vital to a good trip out with your camera, you should always make sure you have all this equipment with you.
